“My father was furious when I enrolled in a course to train as a beautician. He would taunt me and say that I would start a barber shop, which was pretty bad in his opinion. I wanted his acceptance. So, I tried to convince him that this was what made me happy. It took him a while to come to terms with my choice but once he did, he accepted my decision wholeheartedly.
I started working in Gurgaon whilst dreaming of establishing my own parlour one day. Dreams do come true. Today, I am the proprietor of a beauty parlour at Khirkee Extension. I’m often called a one-woman army. From wielding a broom to ringing the cash register, from removing blackheads to budgeting the beauty products - I do everything. The pleasure I see on my clients’ fresh-out-of-the-parlour faces makes all my hard work worthwhile.
I am neat at my work, I pay attention to detail, and I am all ears when my clients want to vent about anything under the sun. Right from their kitchen tadka to coffee breaks - I’ve heard it all; not to mention, some juicy gossip! Despite the large number of chic parlours which have a wide variety of fancy facilities, a lot of my clients return for yet another session. They like that I recommend homemade beauty solutions. I don’t push my clients into taking a gamut of treatments for making the extra buck.
I firmly believe that if you feel good about yourself from within, everyone around will find you attractive. The magic lies in how you feel about yourself. I believe that part of my work is encouraging my clients to see themselves in a better light. When I see them happy with the work I’ve done, I feel that I’ve earned a good night’s sleep.”
